There are around 35 species of Anoplognathus, they are commonly known as Christmas Beetles because the beetles emerge around Christmas time. The larvae are crescent shaped and develop in soil, feeding on grass and plant roots, as well as the surface roots of eucalypts. As adults they mainly eat eucalyptus leaves.
